Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival
More than 20 of the world's top bartenders compete in the battle of the best mai tai.
The Royal Kona Resort celebrates in true tiki style with its second annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival. Named after the restaurateur who popularized the tiki bar, this kitschy festival brings 30 bartenders from all over to world to compete for $10,000 and the honor of World's Best Mai Tai—fancy umbrellas included.
Prior to the mai tai competition, guests can take part in the luau and dance, then roam the Luau Grounds on the next day to check out local artwork, clothing and foodstuffs. Vendors there will serve up grilled Hawaiian-style barbecue as they compete for the Battle of the World's Best BBQ.
The festivities start at 11 a.m. and the competition runs from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
