The Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento

Art lovers will relish the collections of the Crocker Art Museum, which features one of the largest collections of California art in the nation, including many works depicting life during the Gold Rush. Opened to the public in 1885, the museum is the oldest west of the Mississippi.

In addition to changing exhibitions, the museum continues to expand its permanent collection, which now includes many pieces of European and Asian art. One wing of the museum is a work of art itself, an Italianate mansion built in 1872.
