Interested in eating at some of New York City’s best restaurants, but put off by the prices? Try dining at the bar! Not only is it less expensive, but the bar or lounge atmosphere is often a more relaxed experience than in the main dining room. It’s a wonderful trend that many top-rated New York restaurants are embracing, including Le Bernardin, Eleven Madison Park and Per Se, where diners can avoid having to order the prix-fixe menu by dining in the lounge.

What’s Old Is New Again

It’s taken over twenty years for the colonial homestead that once housed the venerable Emily Shaw’s Inn restaurant in Westchester County, New York, to be reborn as a fine dining destination. The building spent over 40 years as Emily Shaw’s Inn, then a decade as The Inn at Pound Ridge, a short chapter as Emily Shaw’s Inn at Pound Ridge, and several periods in between where it sat uninhabited, waiting for someone like chef-restaurateur Jean-Georges Vongerichten to restore it to its former glory. With a farm-to-table theme and an ambiance that is somehow elegant and rustic, modern and colonial, open and cozy all at the same time, it appears he has done that… and then some.

Successful Test of Virgin Galactic’s Future Commercial Spacecraft – Travel News

Virgin Galactic is making history while pioneering commercial space travel. On Jan 10th, 2014, the SpaceShipTwo, a rocket-powered space vehicle, successfully completed its third rocket-powered supersonic flight. After taking off from the Mojave Air and Space Port in the California Mojave Desert at 7:22 a.m. local time, pilot Dave Mackay and co-pilot Mark Stucky reached an altitude of 71,000 feet – SS2’s highest altitude to date – and a supersonic speed of Mach 1.4. Following a series of similar tests, Virgin Galactic and partners expect to test full space flight within the year.

Long gone are the days of traveling by feet, horses and the wagons of the courageous pioneers (hey, without them we would not be here). For many, many years now we’ve had airplanes. But how to decide on an airline? The price, the mileage program, the credit card points, the safety, the service, the schedule, the airport, the onboard amenities, the extras you have to pay? The choices are vast.

Farm-to-Tequila: A Visit to Casa Herradura

There is some dispute as to who first said, “No one should see how laws or sausages are made.” But there’s no dispute that seeing how Tequila is made is a fascinating experience.


Vodka can be distilled from potatoes, wheat, grapes or other substances. But Tequila is only made from blue agave, one of the 200 known types of agave.  On a trip to Amatitán, Jalisco, Mexico, we got to visit the Herradura estate where blue agave is grown, harvested and transformed into Mexico’s finest export.
