Triple Chocolate Truffle Pizza at the Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills

The story goes that the general manager of the Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills, Pradeep Raman, really loves food — and since I was able to test him, trust me, he knows about food. So he asked Mirko Paderno, the chef of the hotel’s restaurant Oliverio, to come up with some fun ideas around chocolate. The pair created “Choco-Sutra,” an all-you-can-eat chocolate buffet served on Fridays and Saturdays around the pool from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. It’s a paradise for chocolate lovers, who are quite numerous. For $28 per person, $50 per couple (and only $17 if you had dinner at the restaurant), you can indulge in chocolate ganache with wasabi; grissini al Cioccolato; banana bread in chocolate custard; mini chocolate pancakes, crème fraîche and coco-pops caviar; chocolate madeleines; a dark chocolate, cinnamon and red chili South-of-the-Border pot de crème; white chocolate panacotta served in a Martini glass, and much more. It is a great way to end a romantic date, or at least the public part of the date! The hotel has some history. Watch my exclusive video with Raman to learn about it. You’re probably asking, “How is the triple chocolate truffle pizza?” It was actually good and interesting, and great after a plate of spaghetti Norcina (a recipe from Paderno’s grandmother, made with sausage). I quite liked the truffles and the chocolate together. You can click on each photo to enlarge to see dishes from the Choco-Sutra menu. Oliverio (Avalon Hotel) on Urbanspoon
