Edoardo Seghesio planted the estate’s first vineyard, Home Ranch, in 1895. This was followed in 1910 by Chianti Station, which boasts the oldest Sangiovese vines in North America. Production expanded massively in the 1960s and 1970s, reaching as high as 1.7 million gallons per year. In recent decades, the family has reduced production by buying less fruit in order to focus on its own estate vineyards. The 2011 Barbera comes from the Seghesio family’s original Home Ranch vineyard. It features bright fruity and floral aromas on the nose and blueberry, plum and black cherry flavors in the mouth. Soft tannins and a lively acidity give the wine a velvety mouthfeel.
