The Seventy Five Wine Company 2012 The Sum Red Blend – Wine of the Week
Price: $20
Rating: 14.5/20
Region: California
Varietals: 75 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 15 percent Petite Syrah, 10 percent Syrah
Alcohol: 13.9 percent
Tasting Notes: Tuck Beckstoffer is the son of famed vineyard owner Andy Beckstoffer, who helped establish Napa Valley as one of the great wine growing regions of the world. Tuck hasn’t done too bad for himself either; his 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon, his first Napa Valley Cabernet, went on to receive worldwide praise, and his portfolio now consists of five wineries, including The Seventy Five Wine Company. His 2012 The Sum is medium-bodied and refreshing, much lighter than its Cabernet Sauvignon-heavy blend would suggest, and displays blackberries and notes of mocha on the nose. Flavors of dark fruit and chocolate dance energetically across the palate, making this wine easily enjoyable now or after bottle aging for 10 to 15 years.
Food Pairings: Pork chops, roasted chicken, mushroom pizza with caramelized onions
