Summer is now in full swing in Los Angeles, with diners enjoying the famous weather that has drawn so many outsiders to the city over the years. Even with the mild winters that make patio dining a possibility year round, there’s something special about eating al fresco this time of year. From sandwiches in Hollywood and pizza in Long Beach to upscale al dente shrimp over the roar of the Pacific in Malibu, here are twenty-five restaurants that feature their outdoor space as much as the cuisine of the chef inside. Presented in alphabetical order, these are GAYOT’s 25 best restaurants to eat at, right now.

Moroccan Nights

by Sophie Gayot

During my dinner last week at Acabàr, located in an iconic, storied building on Sunset Boulevard, I was wowed by the décor. The Meschin brothers — owners of The Little Door and Little Next Door — along with Roland Emmerich, Jerry Murray and Sue Choi did an amazing job restoring the former Moroccan restaurant Dar Maghreb that had been there for 42 years.

As 2013 has ended, aren’t you looking forward to know where to dine in 2014?

We have a few things that can help.

Listen to my latest interview on chef Jamie Gwen’s radio show, which is now syndicated throughout America, where we discussed (listen to show here):
– chef Michel Richard’s new restaurant in New York, Villard at The New York Palace;
chef Jeff Mahin’s new additions to the Chicago scene, Summer House Santa Monica and Stella Barra Pizzeria;
Michael Mina’s PUB 1842 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, and Sam Marvin’s Echo & Rig Butcher and Steakhouse in Las Vegas;
– then we went to Paris to talk about the major renovation going on at the Dorchester Collection’s Hôtel Plaza Athénée, and chef Eric Frechon‘s new gourmet bistro Lazare;
– we finished the journey in Los Angeles at Hakkasan, the new Chinese restaurant in Beverly Hills, and chef Steven Fretz’s The Church Key in West Hollywood, which is already so popular, it’s hard to get a table.

Lisa Vanderpump Rules: Trying To Get Some Secret Stories

by Sophie Gayot

Last night, as I dined at SUR Restaurant & Lounge, I tried to grill Katie Maloney, one of the cast members of Bravo’s hit TV show Vanderpump Rules. She has been a server at the restaurant for four years and has been in the cast of the show both seasons it has aired. So she certainly knows things about Stassi Schroeder, Jax Taylor, Tom Sandoval and Kristen Doute’s dramas.

Watch my exclusive video interview with her to listen to what she has to say. Then tune in Monday night for the next episode.

Bravo TV series Vanderpump Rules started airing in January with a happy cast. It stars the wait staff and bartenders at SUR Restaurant & Lounge, who work under the firm hand of restaurant partner Lisa Vanderpump, one of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”.

By the end Season One almost everybody is crying or has cried, except Vanderpump. As the finale is airing tonight, I think business partner Nathalie Zapata and general manager Peter Madrigal will have lots on their hands to keep the boys and girls working together as a team until Season Two starts.

And since SUR Restaurant & Lounge is one of GAYOT.com’s Top 10 Sexy Restaurants in Los Angeles, maybe the atmosphere will foster a surprise.
