2010 Audi A6 3.0 TFSI Review

Fun-to-Drive Family Sedan

A three-quarter front view of a 2010 Audi A6 3.0 TFSI quattro Auto Tiptronic Sedan

In short: A sporty premium sedan.

With this smartly-styled, supercharged A6, Audi offers up a vehicle that is capable of competing with class-leading heavyweights like the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Our Aventurine Blue Pearl A6 3.0 TFSI, fitted with a handsome leather interior and 18-inch alloy wheels, not only looked the part of a luxury sedan, but with its powerful 3.0-liter, 300-horsepower V6 and road-hugging quattro all-wheel drive, also proved that it could keep up with its German cousins in terms of performance. While the unassuming A6 was relatively tame in regular drive mode, it really roared when we switched over to "S" mode—especially with the use of Audi's innovative Tiptronic paddle shifters. As expected, this sure-footed family sedan provided great handling and a sporty yet stable feel thanks to its permanent all-wheel drive system and Servotronic speed sensitive steering, even as we pushed the supercharged engine into high revs.

Although the Audi A6 truly excels on the open road, we felt perfectly comfortable while cruising around town, thanks in large part to the luxury vehicle's posh interior and well-integrated technological features. In addition to standard SIRIUS satellite radio and a high-resolution multimedia interface, our A6 3.0 TFSI also came equipped with a rearview camera that made parking on crowded city streets a little less stressful. Active families and outdoorsy types will appreciate the A6's optional all-weather package and roomy trunk; however, long-legged passengers may find themselves wishing that a little of that extra space could have been apportioned to the rear seats. Drivers need not worry about whiny rear passengers, though—simply crank up the volume on the booming Bose sound system and enjoy the swift, smooth ride of this luxurious performance sedan.
