Racing Cat

2005 Jaguar S-Type R 4.2 Litre

By Alain Gayot

In short: A racing sedan for the streets.

This cat definitely has an attitude. It simply wants to go. You’re not going to get a cushy and soft ride here, but if speed and handling are in your plans, we guarantee that you won’t be disappointed with this animal. Should you want to ally the image of luxury with a prestigious brand, then this is your ride.

The entire car is made in England but borrows a German transmission that smoothly delivers ample power at any given point in time. From the moment you look at it from a distance you get the feeling that it’s ready to pounce. The wheel and tire package is a good start. Then you go from the sport mesh front grill to the spoilered trunk and large dual exhaust pipes. The “R” monotone interior package commands a $2,300 price tag, but along with the aluminum finisher package transforms your regular Jaguar luxury vehicle into a racing model . And of course you’ll want to get it in the official Jaguar Racing green.

This is one of those cars you fall in love with instantly. You get an extremely fast and nimble car with seating for four or five, if desired, and a regular-sized trunk. The price will be the determining factor, but as far as sports cars go, we give this one the green light.

Warranty/Service: 4 year/50,000 mile complimentary scheduled maintenance, 24/7 roadside assistance.
