Since the restaurant scene right now is quite different, chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and his team, led by executive chef Steve Benjamin, are currently only offering two dinner tasting menus every Thursday to Sunday — eight courses priced at $180 + wine pairings $220; and six courses priced at $140 + wine pairings $140.

The Waldorf Astoria is located in one of the most affluent zip codes on the planet (90210), so be prepared to indulge in luxury (which always comes at a price). It starts with the hotel’s entrance and lobby, then the marble gallery to the restaurant. The très high ceiling of the dining room gives it grandeur. To add warmth, chef Benjamin has installed a massive wall of greenery to divide it to the eye.

Chef Benjamin has also added to the portfolio of dishware new plates that enhance the presentation of the delicacies composing the menu. In conjunction with Jean-Georges, one of the few chefs that is known worldwide by his first name only, Benjamin has created a menu that has more of an identity than previously when the dishes were a selection of Jean-Georges’ classics from his various restaurants.

The menus are seasonal and will change monthly. The photos below reflect the April eight-course menu. I am sure chef Benjamin will imagine some colorful dishes for the coming months — they bring a brightness that is much needed these days…
