Los Angeles Restaurant Closures due to the January 2025 Fires

By Sophie Gayot

Los Angeles, January 8, 2025

The fires that have impacted Los Angeles and its surrounding areas will leave an indelible scar on both our minds and the landscape. It is to be expected that measures will be taken by the authorities, and they have to, so such a tragedy does not happen again.

Many friends have lost everything, leaving their homes with just the clothes they had on. I spoke with some of them when it just started, inviting them to my house. Since I was not hearing from them thereafter, I feared the worst. And the worst happened. But, I am also thinking about the hundred thousand in the same situation.

The world is seeing the apocalyptic images. How can this even occur? The loss of property is one thing, but the loss of memories that were encapsulated in the homes is irreplaceable. My heart aches for all of those affected by this unimaginable devastation. My stomach hurts…

There are also the businesses that were lost, providing a living for their staff and serving the community. Many have lost this on top of their homes. This is an incommensurable disaster. Below is a running list of the restaurants destroyed or damaged by the inferno. Others remain shuttered as a precaution while the crisis continues.

We are all crying and sending our condolences to those who lost loved ones.

Four days later, it is still burning… My son, who is watching in horror from Paris, got really mad on the phone: “How can this be happening in Los Angeles, when it is burning inside the city. California is the seventh richest economy in the world. What the hell are they doing? UNBELIEVABLE!!!”

That is the least we can say. There must be some accountability. The January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires are among the worst natural disasters in American history. For a fact, I personally know that there are water-dropping airplanes on the ground and ready and available to come to the rescue. This is a total scandal.

The list of friends and acquaintances who have been impacted by the destruction is growing. My heart goes out to them.

Also, when the “Red Flag Warning” was issued on Monday, January 6, 2025, preparation and preventive measures could have taken place. That did not happen.
