A16 Rockridge Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Wine director Shelley Lindgren, who together with Victoria Libin owns standouts A16 and SPQR in San Francisco, has brought her exceptional wine curation and knack for warm sophistication to Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood, and well-heeled diners have flocked accordingly.

Food & Drinks: A16 Rockridge is meant to showcase the coastal cuisine of Puglia, where executive chef Rocky Maselli has family roots, and guests will find seafood choices throughout the seasonal menu --- in vibrant crudo, rich antipasti, toothsome house-made pastas and Neapolitan-style pizzas that rank among the Bay Area's finest. Land lovers, too, have many options, including the almost indulgent montanara Rockridge pizza with dough that is lightly fried and topped with smoky tomato sauce, basil and burrata --- ours had added prosciutto di Parma, and coupled beautifully with a gently frothy glass of Lettere, a Neapolitan sparkling red wine. The spacious, bright-cream room, spot-lit through vast windows thankfully shaded by Oakland's afternoon sun, is outfitted in reclaimed wood block tables and a chocolate wood rafter ceiling. Two friendly stopping points are the row of 12 kitchen-side bar seats in back and, in front, the attractive, airy cocktail bar area; though the wine list is 1,500-bottles strong, this location's Italian-focused drink program provides additional attraction. For dessert, try the chocolate semifreddo with salted caramel and espresso cream.
