Affairs Restaurant Review

: This large space has housed several restaurants, most recently Urban Spice. While some aspects of the decorative details need refurbishing, a dramatic interior influenced by Indian aesthetics is appealing, although the flamenco dancer portrait in the main dining room seems puzzling. Affairs serves Indian cuisine and Mexican fare, creating a faux fusion message, because in reality there are two different menus. But we think the Indian food is what rates. Cooking is done in a traditional tandoor oven as well as over a sigri, a small, open-flame stove used in northern India. Typical of Indian restaurants, vegetarian dishes are skillfully prepared. Eggplant chat, a sharable nibble (the word "chat" means “snack“), uses the long Asian eggplant and slices it into thin rounds, which are fried crisp and then topped with red onion and house-made candied ginger. Lamb DO Piaza brings tasty, tender lamb simmered in a mild South Indian curry; consider the banarsi bhindi (okra) to accompany it (both portions are plenty for two). A Southern American touch shows up with shrimp and grits. Desserts include classic Indian sweets and tres leches cake. A full bar, beers (Indian, Mexican, American and one local craft brew), some decent wines that can pair with Indian cuisine and cocktails provide adult beverages.
