The casual sister restaurant of DC’s AGAINN, this suburban branch is overseen by the same dedicated chef and offers much the same menu, which means that just about anything on offer rings true to flavor. AGAINN plays a dual role in the ’burbs: it’s a happy hour destination plus its menu has family appeal. The informal lunch menu speaks to the kid in us all, with its knockout hamburger, shrimp and grits, and house-made-pastrami sandwich. It also accommodates calorie counters, with several entrée salads; the chopped salad is a conglomeration of fresh vegetables and roast chicken. But just so you don’t forget its culinary roots, AGAINN Tavern puts forth such British Isles’ favorites as shepherd’s pie, fish ‘n’ chips, and bangers and mash. For dinner, the chef omits some of the casual fare, maintains the British offerings, and proposes various sophisticated and dressed-up versions of the lunch meat plates, including roasted chicken and rib-eye steak. Dessert must include the killer sticky toffee pudding.
