THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED AK Restaurant + Bar Restaurant Review:

THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Indeed, AK refers to Abbot Kinney, but we prefer to say it stands for Andersson's Kitchen. Better known as "chef Conny" to Angelenos during his tenure as chef at two local Four Seasons hotels, Conny Andersson now has his own restaurant. His Swedish heritage sets the tone for a sleek and modern décor. A combination of high ceilings, wood, white walls, tall communal tables and a walled-in fire pit, coupled with floor-to-ceiling windows through which you can glimpse bamboo and giant birds of paradise, will make your evening quite pleasant, albeit in a noisy atmosphere. For a quieter experience, ask to be seated upstairs in the more intimate space. Andersson's cuisine reflects his world travels, from Sweden to Egypt, India, the Caribbean and Bali, so it is eclectic and varies drastically from one dish to the next. Your journey can start with herring, flown directly from Sweden and marinated in the restaurant's kitchen, then progress to a mushroom toast with crispy pancetta and shaved queso de mano, or sardines à la plancha with olive tapenade, shaved fennel and preserved lemon. The diver scallops will surprise you with its spicy tahini dressing (a paste of ground sesame seeds). The very fresh skate wing is fermented in black garlic and served with the customary capers. Move land-side with duck breast prepared Peking style in honey-orange gastrique, or the Kurobuta pork schnitzel with apple-braised red cabbage. Cheese, of course, is offered, with selections from France, Sweden, Spain and Colorado. The desserts are deliberately more classic, with a dark chocolate tart, light profiteroles or crème caramel. The short wine list carries mainly French and California labels.
