THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Akmal Pakistani & Indian Cuisine Restaurant Review:
It's a wonderful blend of curry, spices and delectable aroma at Akmal. East meets West as co-owner Samania Akmal-Himphill, a German pastry chef of Pakistani heritage, cooks and effectively creates an environment like no other in the Hawaiian Islands. Her skill with pastry shows in the samosas, which you can have à la carte or with salad and homemade chutney. Vegan dishes include sabzi masala, a melange of vegetables cooked in Indian spices and herbs; alu palak with spinach and potatoes; and daal tarka, a dish of lentils with onions, ginger and garlic. Those who enjoy meat will like the ghosht korma, lamb in a mild, creamy almond gravy with pineapple, or the tandoori chicken served with sabzi masala, basmati rice and chappaties. We also recommend the murgh malai kebab, chicken thighs marinated in mild black pepper yogurt sauce, or tangri kebab, chicken breast marinated in spicy turmeric yogurt sauce. The restaurant serves no alcohol, but the refreshingly cold yogurt drinks known as lassi (try the lilikoi version) will cool your palate.
