Al’s Burger Shack Restaurant Review:
Hordes of locals gather at Al’s, which is literally a shack with no more than six tables inside. Outside, though, there are a dozen communal picnic tables separated from the weather by a roof and walls of recycled old window frames. Al’s house-ground medium rare burgers taste even better when eaten outdoors. The Mookie is composed of juicy chuck topped with bacon-onion jam, roasted garlic aïoli and blue cheese, while the Paco has guacamole and habanero Jack cheese. Al’s offers a few creative hot dogs, a chicken burger and a veggie burger crafted from sweet potatoes, black beans and oats. Liquid possibilities include sodas, beers and milkshakes, and even a paper cup of a decent Shiraz.
