Al’s manages to look like a cross between a trendy, though somewhat rough and ready, U.S. bar in Greenwich village and a worker’s café, albeit a superior one. It serves a pretty wide menu, too, from English breakfasts to Mexican tortillas. A happy blend of good beers on draught and cups of tea sum up the place, which caters to just about everybody. It’s a useful pit stop after an evening of culture at nearby Sadler’s Wells.
