American Flatbread Restaurant Review:

Burlington’s flagship hearth, dedicated to food integrity and sustainability, has been baking creative pies at this location since 2005. With an emphasis on local produce, such as sweet leaf lettuce and organic mozzarella, American Flatbread is more than your average pizza joint. Guests gather at the upscale bar, sampling local pilsners, IPAs and amber ales (brewed on site) to pair with the innovative pizzas ranging from sun-dried tomato and mushroom to pepperoni and peppers. Every meal should begin with the mesclun mix "Evolution Salad” --- the menu’s sole appetizer, tossed with shaved carrots, crumbled chèvre and a bright, ginger-raspberry vinaigrette. Still, it’s the wood-fired squares of milled wheat that have earned this destination its deserved legacy. Flatbread’s signature cheese and herb pie (sans red sauce) tastes like tarte flambé. Baked into crispy, elegant strips, the pizza seems impossibly thin for such rich, oregano flavor. Also first-rate is the nitrate-free New Vermont sausage, where every bite brings a balanced burst of fennel, sweet onion and roasted red pepper. This is pizza for gourmet and casual palates alike.
