With huge picture windows looking out on Christopher Street and Waverly Place, a smattering of old wooden tables, a menu of French-Catalan dishes, and an old Village bohemian vibe, Ametller (pronounced: ah-met-e-yer) is the perfect place for morning coffee or a late-night chat over a bottle of vino. The owner has concocted a menu reminiscent of the food his French-Catalonian mother fed him. The hearty ouillade, a chorizo and chickpea stew with strong hints of fennel, the saltimbocca-like barca (served with chunky mashed potatoes), and a croque monsieur that’s served with one-inch-thick peasant bread draw West Villagers into Ametller; the BYOB policy and relaxed atmosphere keep them here.
