THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Amicus Restaurant Review:
South Water Street is one of Providences many restaurant rows, and Amicus is the neighborhood Italian joint in the area. It is run by brothers Tony and Peter Lucci, and the family feel is evident in the comfy-chic atmosphere. Hearty greetings and coddling service are the norm. So is a brand of cuisine that seems to split its allegiance between Italian and American staples---the kind so beloved by New Englanders---and a creative bent that is Californian in its market sensibilities and simplicity. Fish is often a best bet here, enhanced by bundles of fresh veggies, salsas, and reductions. Pastas are pretty if a bit plain. Garlic is rampant. Amicus is amiable, for sure. If only the food had the unbridled edge and passion of the rest of the place.
