Amy's Place Restaurant Review:

Time was, Amy's Place was the best place to relax and recover from late nights and long hours: the coffee came strong and hot, the food was basic and fried, the smoking was permitted, if not encouraged. The customers have not thinned out any since the New York State ban on smoking took effect---you can chalk that up to the place's character. The friendly staff cooperates on all fronts---prep, serving, and bussing---and bringing the coffee in record time, poured into cups that charmingly never match. Apart from the best omelets in town, Amy's Place offers a good selection of vegetarian and Lebanese food. Vegi-burgers come in three flavors: 12-grain, eggplant and lentil walnut. Long-time customers swear by the lentil berry and burgo wraps. For a hearty, savory meal, try the Lebanese specialties: croquette-like kibbeh (ground lamb, cracked wheat and pine nuts); kofta (lamb and beef, parsley and onions); and shwarma (wine-marinated beef).
