THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Arbor Restaurant Review:

Its small interior has the sleek and glossy look of Patrick Nagel redux; its owner, Douglas Organ, hails from southern California. But Arbor nonetheless fits neatly in to the bohemian center Jamaica Plain has become. Organ is community-minded and it shows as much in his food as in his and his staff's inclusive warmth. Taking the opportunity to fill a gap in JP's dining scene, but refusing to force down locals' throats what they neither need nor want, he has created a bistro-type menu that's by turns elegant and funky, redolent with Provençal, Moroccan, Italian and Turkish flavors---expect lots of lamb, eggplant, almonds, dried fruit and fresh herbs. More specifically, we don't know many chefs who would pooh-pooh restraint and show so much exuberance as he does with a salad that combines Medjool dates and blood oranges, with preserved lemon, picholine olives and almonds; or with a butternut squash risotto that wakes right up from the bracing tang of ricotta salata. Meanwhile, though there's no hard liquor license, you wouldn't know it from the cocktails, carefully concocted from apéritifs and liqueurs.
