Opened in 1945, this remains one of the most important soul food restaurants in the city. Service is warm and most personable with a no-rush, no-fuss approach. Don't miss the chicken gumbo soup, the greens with smoked ham hock, the baby-back ribs or the peach cobbler. We happen to think that this place serves some of the best fried chicken, too. Daily specials add yet another exciting eating element, so look beyond the regular rotation and seek them out. Local live jazz on Friday nights offers a taste of real Chicago. The first Sunday of each month, a brunch sports dishes like smothered chicken and ribs.
