THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Arthur Ave Restaurant Review:

Named for the famed street in New York City’s Little Italy, Houston’s Arthur Ave is the handiwork of chef William Wright and sommelier Evan Turner of Helen Greek Food and Wine fame. This time they turn their skills to old-school Italian-American fare. Inside, the space resembles a New York City brownstone with bare brick walls and dark wood. Be advised that it's a smallish restaurant and it can get loud when crowded. On the plus side, there is a diminutive menu of snazzy craft cocktails and an impressive wine list. Some dishes can be hit or miss --- like the chickpea-coated calamari --- but you can’t go wrong with the caprese salad, New England-style stuffed shells or white clam pizza. The real standout selection, though, is the so-called Sunday gravy. Most Texans likely aren’t familiar with this dish of hearty meat chunks braised for hours in a red sauce and ladled over fresh pasta, but they will be soon.
