Ensconced within Judie Raiford's dynamic gallery of contemporary art and jewelry, Artisan Foods Bakery & Café is a good spot to stop for a snack or lunch before perusing the inventory. Breakfast, featuring omelets and french toast, begins at 7 a.m. and on Saturday is served all day. For brunch, served all day on Saturday, try the house Belgian waffles or the lemon ricotta hot cakes. Lunch features house-made soups, a quiche, tuna or chicken salad, and specialty dishes such as soft-shell crabs on roasted tomato. All breads and pastries are baked in house each day, and inevitably there's something new to try. Most sandwiches may be ordered by the half, and are easily paired with a cup of soup. We like the grilled flank sandwich, with the roasted lamb sandwich coming in a close second. Cakes and cookies are the dessert choices. No alcohol is served; we recommend the coffee and teas.
