: Decorated with local art, Assaggi offers well-prepared dishes that range from paella and mezes and pita, to the pastas and veal dishes of Italy. Mains include organic pan-seared Scottish salmon with warm quinoa salad, fennel citrus slaw and lemon-leek emulsion in a mustard-maple reduction; Moroccan-style twice-cooked duck legs atop couscous; and hearty veal scaloppine with potato gnocchi, artichokes, tomato, capers and sautéed spinach in a white wine veal reduction sauce. Plates are decoratively garnished and served by an attentive staff in white aprons. Because the setting is unpretentious, the food stands out in surprising contrast. The wine list features over 120 selections from vineyards throughout the world, including a large variety of Argentinean Malbecs, Pinot Noirs, Cabernet Sauvignons, Bonardas, Chardonnays and Torrontés. There's also a nice number of by-the-glass options. The sidewalk café is a popular perch when weather permits. |
