Au Comptoir Restaurant Review:

Au Comptoir (at the counter) was launched by longtime pals Julien Aubin and Maxime Bettili, both French-born and -raised and veterans of Paris bistros and Vancouver's best Gallic spots. Authentic French ambience is everywhere, from imported sidewalk tables to a purpose-made long tin bar and crockery. Diners pop in for morning coffee and croissant or pain au chocolat, or tuck into a proper breakfast, perhaps a tender omelet aux fine herbes or a croque monsieur. Brunch rolls out with fresh oysters, almond waffles topped with fruit and vanilla crème fraîche, and veal sweetbreads with potatoes, chanterelles and poached eggs. Lunch stars include a burger with onion jam and house frites, a confit leek tart, and a flavor-packed classic beef tartare. Dinnertime might bring the Jerusalem artichoke and hedgehog mushroom risotto, or roasted pheasant with chestnut pithivier and coffee-roasted carrots. Evening specials feature oysters on Monday, mussels and frites on Wednesday; Thursday is cheese night and Sunday is roast chicken. Check out the carousel pastry case to choose from a changing selection, such as Paris Brest and tarte Tatin. A full bar and a small, well-chosen beer and wine list round out the offerings. The friendly and attentive French-speaking staff is all smiles.
