Avellino's Restaurant Review: This historic brick strip center is home to a number of thriving joints, among them Avellino's, which Lou Dirienzo opened in 2009. A simple interior faces the open kitchen, where gas-fired ovens produce a delectable cracker-crust-style pizza. We enjoy the Rustica, which layers fior di latte and pecorino romano cheeses with pancetta. Pasta preferences are well satisfied with baked ziti and lasagna among other options, and the panini include a classic caprese (mozzarella, tomato, fresh basil) and something that might best be described as the Italian Dagwood but is called the Julius Cesar, piling several meats, banana peppers, lettuce and tomato, mustard and mayo. A limited beer and wine list is serviceable. Tiramisu is one of the best we've ever tasted; cannoli is offered, too. Delivery is available within a 3 1/2 mile radius of the restaurant with a minimum $15 order. Also located at 1328 Windsor Pkwy. NE, Brookhaven, 404-500-3841. |
