21 Oceanfront Restaurant Review:

At the foot of historic Newport Pier and right on Newport’s lively concrete boardwalk, this local landmark is known as a romantic spot for good continental fare and a well-stocked subterranean wine cellar. Oddly enough for a hip beach restaurant, the Victorian era lives on here in the elegant and sophisticated setting --- ornate brass and glass light fixtures, black leather booths, a color scheme featuring burgundy and a mahogany bar. Executive chef Jesus Mendoza creates reliable cuisine, and can handle both surf and turf with equal skill. Start with a classic appetizer such as oven-baked escargots or greens like the Asian pear salad with candied pecans, Gorgonzola and a raspberry vinaigrette. Signature entrées include the thick "baseball-cut" swordfish steak, a 16-ounce bone-in rib-eye, lobster tail and New Zealand rack of lamb. Be sure to place an order for the soufflé about 30 minutes before you're ready for its proper presentation.
