About the restaurant: This half-mile stretch of Washington Street in Yountville is home to four establishments from renowned chef/restaurateur Thomas Keller: his temple of gastronomy The French Laundry, French brasserie Bouchon, Bouchon Bakery and ad hoc, which serves up simple, homey food with a pedigree. (The restaurant was originally conceived as a temporary placeholder restaurant, but became a permanent fixture thanks to the positive response from guests.)

Food & Drinks: The four-course prix-fixe dinner menu shifts daily. (There is also brunch on Sundays.) The menu comes pronged inside a plain brown file folder stickered with the all-lowercase ad hoc name on the tab. Casual servers in slate bowling shirts bring ample family-style platters for diners to dig into themselves. For instance, you might find a fig and fennel salad, followed by roasted pork belly, a local cheese course and ice cream sundaes. Mondays tend to feature fried chicken in various disguises; it's one of their busiest nights of the week for a reason --- it's truly divine. Opt for the wine pairings with your meal or make selections from the wine list. Ad hoc has its own label of Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé, plus there are cocktails. Buckets of the famous fried chicken are also available for takeout.
