City power-brokers arrive early at Avalon Diner for breakfast meetings over the famous buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy or Western omelets. Families, some second-generation diners, flock here for a lunch of juicy burgers and hand-cut fries, the Big Salad in a bowl or the daily blue-plate specials. The soda fountain counter turns out shakes and ice cream floats as well as limeade made from fresh limes and served with a maraschino cherry.
