Keith McNally’s French brasserie is just like the New York original: all red awnings, red leather banquettes and antique mirrors in a space that in a previous existence was London’s theater museum. Open all day, it offers the likes of New York pancakes, bacon rolls, porridge and scrambled eggs for breakfast, an afternoon menu from roast beet salad to steaks as well as traditional afternoon tea at £29.95 per person. There’s onion soup, snails, ceviche and more at lunch and dinner and plats du jour. Breads are under the supervision of master baker Jon Rolfe. The French wine list fits the place; there are cocktails and craft beers as well. With a professional staff, Balthazar steams along at a good pace.
