Bamboo Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Located in a historic 1926 building that once served as a general store for the North Kohala sugar plantation community, this artistic bamboo-décor eatery has matched authentic, old wooden floors with unusual artwork from around the world. Look on the wall for the Eugene Savage Matson steam-line menus dating back to the 1950s. The chicken satay pot stickers served with a spicy-sweet chili-mint sauce are signature but we like the Thai coconut prawns with fresh papaya salsa just as well. In keeping with healthy trends, they've eliminated all trans fats from the menu and are now serving organic produce and free-range chicken. The fresh catch of the day can be served in four different ways, and we like it grilled, served with a goat cheese polenta, fresh local greens and a spicy mango and sambal sauce. Among cowboy dishes are barbecued pork baby-back ribs with roasted pineapple sauce and a beef tenderloin with Jack Daniels sauce. For dessert, try the mocha-cappuccino cheesecake. Local musicians play on weekends.
