BCN Taste & Tradition Restaurant Review:

A surprisingly modern interior inhabits a circa-1920s home in Montrose replete with museum-quality paintings and Picasso-designed dishes showcased above the bar. This is BCN Taste & Tradition, a true Catalan restaurant. The food isn't traditional Spanish cuisine, but comes from Catalonia, a region of Spain that strongly clings to its indigenous culture, including its cuisine and drinks. Owner Ignacio “Nacho” Torras and head chef Luis Roger are from Barcelona. While prices may seem steep for the small portions Texans aren’t used to, BCN is well worth the splurge. Start with the Spanish Fermín Ibérico ham and toasted pa amb tomaca (bread and tomato). Foie gras is also a delicate delight, as are the poached quail eggs in potato foam. Soups and salads are fresh and fragrant but can easily be skipped after a few starters as you dig into the entrées. Seafood choices include lobster bouillabaisse over aromatic rice and a grilled monkfish with eggplant caviar. Sous-vide rabbit loin and grilled pork feet with chickpeas are standout meat dishes, after which you may want to opt for a simple cheese plate instead of the rich sponge cake filled with whipped cream. There is an interesting, if expensive, Spanish wine list and a full bar, which pours strong gin and tonics, the traditional drink of Barcelona.
