The Black Pelican Restaurant Review:
Be it for lunch, dinner or just a quick after-beach bite, every diner's fancy will be met at The Black Pelican. The lunch menu has options like the tuna melt made with fresh local tuna along with burgers, fried seafood baskets or a selection from the steamer --- clams, mussels, even Dungeness crab legs. Small entrées are also available, such as the Baja lime-rubbed mahi or a rusticana chicken and penne dish. At dinner, you'll find steamed options like the Frogmore Clambake, featuring shellfish, andouille sausage, vegetables and corn; and a wealth of fish dishes: try the tuna a la Oscar. Shrimp and crab (Wanchese fisherman's risotto), beef and chicken (OBX chicken and ribs) are prevalent on the menu --- oftentimes combined in dishes like the Down South, a grilled NY strip with a barbecued shrimp skewer. We also recommend the Greek salad and locals flock in for the house specialty wood-fired pizzas (go for the margherita). The building that houses the restaurant is partially an old lifesaving station --- Station #6 --- constructed in 1874. In 1903, the Wright Brothers sent a telegram from this structure announcing their successful first flight.
