Bollywood Theater Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Bollywood's take on Indian food, developed by chef/owner Troy MacLarty after traveling extensively throughout India, is more impressionistic than strictly authentic. But it works, as daily crowds attest. The restaurant expanded into an adjoining space, resulting in less waiting and a slightly expanded menu. Orders are placed at the counter, and then seats located in cheerful rooms full of decorative objects from India. A movie screen adds atmosphere by playing snippets of Bollywood films.

Food & Drinks: Try the lamb samosas or the Kati roll, a paratha stuffed with chicken or paneer, egg, pickled onion and green chutney. Another favorite is the Vada Pav, nicknamed the "poor man's burger" of Mumbai, a spicy potato patty served on a roll with chutney after being dipped into chickpea batter and deep-fried. Among the vegetable choices, we recommend the crispy, salty fried okra. Vindaloo and a choice of curries are less exciting, but seem to have added more spice and zip with the years. Most of the offerings are listed as "small plates," but portions are generous (especially if you order the multi-item "thali meal").
