THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Checkered Past Winery Restaurant Review:

Housed in Dallas’ historic south side, Checkered Past Winery is part of the bigger food and entertainment collection that occupies this eclectic residential and commercial landmark. Tucked in a corner at the back of the building, stairs lead to a front door that opens to a lounge, casual restaurant and tasting room. Large stone pillars dominate the space, along with metal and wood highlighting the décor. Lime green walls and recycled tires and scooters hang from the ceiling, giving the place an urban, mod vibe. Cozy up to the bar for local wines, or take your pick from labels outside of Texas. Co-owner Sandro DiSanto, who also wears the chef hat, is a first generation American with roots in Sicily, and he and the other two owners also feature wine produced at their vineyard in East Texas. For beer drinkers, the owners rotate local craft and bottled beers regularly. Food is locally sourced and Italian-influenced. There is a variety of flatbread pizzas, and the goat cheese-stuffed peppadew skewers are notable starters. Weekends plays host to live music, including jazz and ska, while local DJs spin tunes from the 1960s.
