Counter Reformation Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Parker Palm Springs is home to this über-hip wine bar and small plates destination. The name’s play on words --- the Counter-Reformation is a period of Catholic resurgence during the 16th century --- resonates throughout the menu. The setting is intimate, and guests may opt for ledge-leaning, bar seating and standing at high cocktail tables only.
Likes: Ambience and curated wine list.
Dislikes: Limited seating.
Drinks & Food: Wines by the glass have been curated to offer range and variety with three to six ounce pours. Most hail from France with a few domestic exceptions. The menu, aptly called Fishes & Loaves, features a handful of items; it’s recommended that guests order several dishes and share with the table. Blinis topped with crème fraîche and plump roe are a treat. Braised baby artichoke drizzled with olive oil and served with a petite arugula salad is ideal on a warm desert night. The cheese plate is also a good choice. Counter Reformation certainly has a European flair, but with a palm-laden backdrop.
