THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Draughtsman Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: What a difference a few decades make. The building that houses the Draughtsman was once a Bob’s Big Boy, but the only big boys around here these days are the double digit-ounce beers pouring from the taps. The restaurant’s interiors do not stray far from its mid-century design, embracing a minimalist décor with clean lines and industrial accents.
Food & Drinks: Touting its menu of elevated pub fare, the Draughtsman offers short rib poutine fries that are more of a meal than an appetizer, as they are slathered in gravy with slow-cooked ribs, cheese curds and pepper bacon punctuating the presentation. Bang Bang PB&J with roasted cashew butter, Thai bird chile strawberry jam, cucumber and basil on grilled date-walnut bread may be a bit too much for those who like to keep it simple, but the grilled cheese with caramelized onions and oven-roasted tomatoes has just the right amount of fancy. Burgers, except for the one with truffle oil, are rather straightforward, as is the quartet of salads. Desserts are very palate-specific and include pot de crème made with peanut butter, a chocolate bourbon lava cake and a chocolate stout float --- definitely for the 21 and over crowd. Choose from a nice selection of local, regional and rotating beers on tap, plus creative cocktails intermingled with the classics.
