THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED El Real Tex-Mex Cafe Restaurant Review:

El Real Tex-Mex Cafe is housed in the 1936 Tower Theater and has a neon marquee visible from miles away when it’s lit at night. The brainchild of chef Bryan Caswell and partner Bill Floyd of Reef, and cookbook author Robb Walsh, El Real is a loving tribute to the original border food Texans enjoyed in the '50s and '60s. A giant screen shows old western films, the dining room is big and airy, and there’s a popular patio. Start with margaritas served in frosted beer mugs and a big bowl of cheesy chili con queso topped with spicy picadillo meat. The most popular entrée is the Enchiladas #7, three cheese enchiladas in a blend of chili con carne and chile gravy topped with even more yellow cheese and served with refried beans and rice. And don’t miss the old-school, rarely-seen San Antonio-style puffy tacos stuffed with smoky chicken. We also like the bacon enchiladas served at brunch, paired with a michelada, a Mexican Bloody Mary made with beer.
