Godai Sushi Bar & Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Godai’s "High-Noon" look --- board walls, Mexican tile floors and tin star decorations --- gives it a noodle-Western setting that seems just fine for the San Antonio sushi it serves. Saddle up with starters such as the soft shell crab, crab spring rolls, or black cod atop soba noodles with truffle oil and lumpfish caviar. They’re all part of a fusion focus that also includes lightly seared tuna asparagus wraps, a lobster and scallop tower with white truffle oil, and more. Then sashay over to any of the classic sushi and sashimi selections, save for the possible exception of the aggressively wasabi-spiked tobiko (though a properly chilled saké will help soothe the burn). If unrestrained rolls are one’s oyster, there’s the Sunset roll with salmon, avocado, crab and slices of lemon. But it’s in utterly Asian dishes such as the saba shio (mackerel) that tradition finally prevails. Untraditionally, there’s a much better wine list than expected that includes many well-regarded French selections. It’s up to you whether you pick simple green tea ice cream or over-the-top deep-fried Oreos for dessert.
