Green New American Vegetarian Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: Chef-owner Damon Brasch has a knack for turning traditional comfort foods inside out and making them healthy.

Food & Drinks: You'll never miss the meat in a Calexico burger of homemade vegan patty topped in organic garbanzo hummus, cheddar (regular or vegan), vegan mayo and spicy chipotle sauce. We also like the tangy, filling black jack pita of blackened Cajun mock chicken with artichoke hearts, lettuce, tomato and lemon-tahini sauce in a toasted pita. Several salads are available as well, including one with jerk spiced Brussels sprouts over fresh greens tossed in Jamaican dressing with carrots and crunchy tortilla strips. Sunday brunch and the "tSoynami" dessert (an original creation of house-made organic soy-based, "tsoft tserve" ice cream) can be found at neighboring sister spot nami. Green New American Vegetarian also has a location at 2240 N. Scottsdale Rd. #8, Tempe, 480-941-9003.
