Hapa Izakaya Restaurant Review:

Yaletown’s Hapa Izakaya prepares an interpretation of hapa (traditional Japanese-style pub food) for a young, energetic clientele. Settle in the sleek room and order auri saba, seared marinated mackerel sashimi, or the paper bag prawns, deep-fried soft-shell prawns with grilled lemon, both from the fresh sheet. Next up is the spicy pork ishi-yaki with rice, garlic sprouts, egg, lettuce and tomato served in a hot stone bowl. Rice bowl fans like to press the rice mixture against the sizzling stone bowl to maximize its toasty tidbits. Desserts include the house-made ice cream sandwich and the saké-kasu brûlée. Bar offerings; 25 varieties of saké; and warm, welcoming service round out this izakaya experience.
