This eclectic Southern restaurant is located inside the Palihotel, a hip boutique property on Melrose. A vintage décor welcomes guests --- a shabby-chic setting of tiled floors, cumbersome metal chairs and mismatched plate ware. Outdoor dining is provided on a quaint woodsy patio. Small dishes feature the likes of chicken cracklins and killer butter biscuits. Larger plates may include New Orleans barbecue shrimp with Carolina Gold rice or hanger steak with mashed potatoes and smoked marrow butter. During lunch, the restaurant riffs on simple Southern staples, like the hot chicken sandwich with aïoli and bread & butter pickles. For dessert, we like the lemon icebox pie with a thick layer of meringue. A concise wine list focuses on independent, hard-to-find labels from California.
