Hudson's Bar & Grill Restaurant Review:

In a desert of malls and chain restaurants, Hudson's Bar & Grill is a welcome oasis. Located in The Heathman Lodge (an outpost of the Heathman Hotel), it’s a restful, classy place to dine after enjoying a hike on the Washington side of the Columbia River. The building’s entrance features a portal of enormous cedar logs, along with a totem pole carved with mythological figures from North Coastal Native American lore. The dining room features wrought iron and oiled parchment paper lamps, banquettes adorned with Native American motifs, and a full-size canoe over a massive stone fireplace. The kitchen uses local ingredients from nearby farms pursuing sustainable agriculture practices. Entrées are familiar standbys prepared with fresh twists. Choose from communal plates: flat-iron steak, pan-seared scallops, butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, polenta. Or if you prefer, order hearty individual dishes such as wild grilled salmon with butternut squash, roasted Brussels sprouts, braising greens and bacon vinaigrette, or Dungeness crab and bay shrimp-stuffed Dover sole. Meat and potatoes fans will go for the classic meatloaf or burgers. Breakfast brings standards such as eggs, pancakes and hash browns. For lunch, there are plenty of soups, salads and sandwiches. We recommend the Dungeness crab salad, a Hudson's signature dish. Don’t miss the bread pudding. A “New World” wine list focuses on West Coast labels, and a full bar supplies other libations.
