The Ivy Restaurant Review:

About the Restaurant & Décor: Opened in 1983, The Ivy has long been surpassed by a plethora of interesting restaurants that have opened in the City of Angels. If it has retained customers, it is for the scene and its energy, rather than the food or service. You're not likely to receive a warm, Mayberry-style welcome. In fact, unless you possess one of those familiar faces (by that we mean “a celebrity,” of course), The Ivy can be one of the chilliest spots in L.A. If you opt for a night of celebrity spotting, you will enter on a patio, surrounded by its signature white picket fence. Roses bloom everywhere, from tabletop bouquets to the hand-painted plates. The chintz upholstery can feel a little passé.

Likes: Celebrity spotting
Dislikes: Stiff prices and attitude

Food & Drinks: While some high-end customers are notorious for tailoring orders to suit their dietary demands, the menu is filled with solid, but pricey, California-ized American dishes, such as the Cobb salad, crab cakes, Southern-style fried chicken, swordfish tacos, Maine lobster ravioli and even a bang-up burger. Nothing fancy for desserts: chocolate chip cookies to rich pecan squares. Select from craft cocktails or, if you prefer something nonalcoholic, order one of the organically grown fruit juices.
