La Sirenita Restaurant Review:

A holdover from the Alberta Art District's less gentrified days, this longtime Alberta Street eatery is one of the few non fast-food establishments where you can eat well for under $5. It's a meat-eater's heaven with traditional taco fillings of cabeza and lengua, as well as goat, spicy sausage or steak picado for the adventurous. Vegetarians may try the cactus filling. Gargantuan burritos are a signature dish, while tamales are properly encased in corn husks and robustly flavored. Carne asada fries are swamped with cheese, meat, guacamole and sour cream. Enhance your entrée selection with many choices at the salsa bar. The atmosphere is friendly for families and hipsters alike. The only drawback is that there are no margaritas available to pair with the spicy fare, although kids can always enjoy the sticky-sweet Jarritos sodas. The menu includes burgers and fries, too. A sibling taqueria is located in southeast Portland's Sellwood neighborhood.
