Leroy Fox Restaurant Review:

Located in the historic former Hotel Charlotte space, Leroy Fox transformed the environment via a full renovation when it opened in 2012. A modern vibe is accented by local memorabilia, including a Charlotte road-sign wall. Start with an order of signature zucchini fries --- thick-cut and lightly fried, dipped in ranch or a house-made spicy sauce. Other starters include hot pretzels, fried green tomatoes and house-made pimento cheese. Salads, burgers, wraps and sandwiches abound, the latter with such filling options as pimento cheese, egg and bacon with dressing all piled onto brioche. Sides are Southern standards: cheese grits, mashed potatoes and gravy, and mac ’n’ cheese. Don’t leave until you’ve tried the Fox’s popular fried chicken. We suggest a “quarter south” dish. All of Leroy Fox’s chickens are naturally raised and hormone-free, and beef is grass-fed, while vegetables and honey are sourced locally. Craft cocktails swirl in the hands of the after-work professional crowd gathered on the contemporary patio. Wines by the bottle and glass are available, but beer is the best bet here. Local options are on draft and include Birdsong Brewing Company, NoDa Brewing Co. and Olde Mecklenburg Brewery. If there’s room for meal-enders, opt for the dessert pretzels or a seasonal cobbler.
