Luk Yu Tea House Restaurant Review:

Luk Yu Tea House has been a Hong Kong dim sum institution since 1933, and is located among other eateries, dusty antique shops and Sino-influenced fashion boutiques in an area known as Mid-Levels. The multi-story space, with the tea room on the street level, harkens back in time with its ceiling fans, carved wood paneling and colorful Art Nouveau-style stained glass. Dim sum fans can point, choose and try to elicit smiles from the gruff waitstaff. The sixty or so items on the menu cover classics like char shui bao pork dumplings, birds nest soup, sweet-and-sour pork and lesser known local flavors like wok-fried beef with walnuts and the deceptively named carrot cake, which is not a cake at all but worth ordering anyway. Wash down dumplings, noodles and other Cantonese dishes with a Tsingtao beer or a selection from the large number of Chinese teas. Reserve a table downstairs, which is livelier and the only place for regulars, many who come nearly every day.
